Job Summary

The Senior Manager Transport Planning leads the development of traffic demand analyses and forecasts, transportation master plan studies, traffic impact studies, road safety assessments, etc.. He is the main counterpart of Project Managers and key support in client interactions. He works closely with Project Managers for the review and validation of deliverables and ensures the proper implementation of all client requirements. The jobholder supports the Project Manager with budget, schedule, client, technical, and quality management activities on projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support, review and provide expert input on project data collection (e.g. traffic counts, etc.) to the project team, as needed
  • Guide the project team in developing traffic models, network simulations and adapt models to client requirements
  • Guide the project team in calculating trip generation, developing origin-destination matrices and calculating and analyzing traffic volumes
  • Prepare drawings, including circulation and parking plans, signage, etc. for projects of high complexity
  • Prepare transportation and traffic impact studies reports for projects of high complexity
  • Validate and review transport and traffic impact studies with clients and authorities for projects of high complexity
  • Support Project Managers in managing project budgets, resource allocation, and project schedules, as needed
  • Support Project Managers in developing, reviewing and updating work programs and man-hour estimates and in managing changes in project scope, schedule or budgets, as needed
  • Support Project Managers in managing project contractual risks, as needed
  • Support Project Managers in managing external suppliers and subcontracts and in ensuring the adherence of their deliverables with the project scope, schedule, and budget
  • Assist Project Managers in monitoring and managing the projects’ budget and schedule, as needed
  • Provide support to Project Managers in developing periodic progress reports, as needed
  • Assist Project Managers with implementing quality control policies and procedures on deliverables and conduct peer review on team members’ deliverables
  • Perform peer review on other teams’ design deliverables

Qualification, Technical Skills, and Competencies Required to Execute this Role

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering
  • Graduate Degrees in Transport Planning, Traffic Engineering / Management or related topics are preferred
  • Chartered Professional Engineering certification or equivalent is preferred
  • In-depth knowledge and proven track record of transport planning and traffic engineering
  • Understanding of international engineering standards and codes
  • Proficiency in transport/land use planning, traffic modeling, ITS and other information systems
  • Familiarity with traffic modeling software, such as VISUM, VISSIM, Synchro, MXROAD, SIDRA, HCS, AutoTURN, CUBE, etc.
  • Excellent operational modeling skills
  • Excellent quantitative and analytical skills
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to represent the organization in diverse forums
  • Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English; Arabic is an advantage

Experience Required to Execute this Role

  • 15+ years of experience in the transportation planning and traffic engineering field in a top tier regional/multinational engineering consultancy.
  • Strong experience and track record in traffic impact studies and traffic engineering plans
  • Exposure to global best practices, trends, and technologies in transport planning and traffic engineering
  • Experience in the Middle East is preferred
