Job Summary
The Lead Engineer (CFD) will be responsible for delivering advanced Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) solutions across HVAC, tunnel ventilation, fire life safety, water systems, and infrastructure projects. This role requires strong technical expertise, leadership skills, and the ability to guide teams while ensuring compliance with international standards and client expectations.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Project Management
- Lead CFD analysis projects for building services (HVAC, smoke control, thermal comfort, etc.).
- Manage and mentor junior CFD engineers, ensuring technical excellence and timely delivery.
- Coordinate with architects, structural engineers, and MEP teams to integrate CFD insights into design solutions.
- Mentor and supervise junior engineers, ensuring quality and timely delivery of projects.
Technical Expertise
- Perform advanced CFD simulations for airflow, heat transfer, and contaminant dispersion in complex building environments. (thermal comfort (indoor/outdoor), external flow analysis for chillers and cooling towers, and thermal performance of data centers).
- Emergency ventilation system design for car parks, atriums, and corridors using CFD for fire and smoke modeling.
- Evacuation Modeling for Fire/ emergency scenarios, Crowd and event mode scenarios.
- Hydraulic behavior and residence time analysis for water systems, storage tanks, reservoirs and pumping stations.
- Develop and validate CFD models using industry-standard tools (ANSYS Spaceclaim, CFX/Fluent, CFD-Post, OpenFOAM, Pyrosim, FDS & Pathfinder).
- Interpret simulation results and provide actionable recommendations for design optimization.
- Multiphase flow simulation for erosion studies and oil & gas projects.
- High-Performance Computing (HPC) for CFD: Experience in parallel computing and distributed processing for large CFD models. Familiarity with MPI/OpenMP, GPU acceleration, and cluster-based simulation environments. Ability to optimize CFD workflows for scalability and performance on HPC platforms.
Quality & Compliance
- Ensure CFD analyses comply with international codes, standards (IBC, ASHRAE, NFPA, LEED, etc.) & client requirements.
- Work closely with multidisciplinary teams to support proposals and deliver integrated solutions. Prepare detailed technical reports and presentations for internal and client reviews.
Innovation & Development
- Develop and validate CFD methodologies for Multiphysics projects. Contribute to the development of internal CFD guidelines and workflows.
- Automate workflows using VBA, Python, and C/C++. User defined functions using C/C++.
- Stay updated with emerging CFD technologies and best practices.
Qualifications, Skills, and Experience Required to Execute this Role
- Master's / Bachelor’s degree or Higher in Mechanical Engineering.
- 14+ years of proven CFD experience across building, transport, energy, water, and infrastructure sectors.
- Strong knowledge of fluid flow, heat transfer, fire dynamics, turbulence, and multiphase flows.
- Proficiency in CFD tools: ANSYS (SpaceClaim, Fluent/CFX, CFD Post), OpenFOAM, PyroSim (FDS), Pathfinder, SimScale.
- Excellent reporting, leadership, people & project management skills.
- Fire Life Safety experience in building projects will be considered an added advantage.
