Job Summary
The Design Engineer participates in design activities for non-complex design projects. He closely works with project teams on the development of concept designs, schematic designs, detailed designs and tender documents which accommodate the requirements of the client, local authorities, international standards and codes of practice and the requirements of other disciplines. He shall stay abreast of the latest trends and developments in the water struture design field and represent the firm and share his expertise and knowledge with other team members.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and analysis of water-retaining and hydraulic structures, including dams, spillways, weirs, culverts, canals, reservoirs, intake structures, and pumping stations.
- Prepare structural calculations, design reports, technical specifications, and construction drawings.
- Perform structural analysis for gravity, hydrostatic, uplift, earth pressure, seismic, and other applicable loading conditions.
- Develop and review reinforcement detailing, structural drawings, and design documentation.
- Coordinate with hydraulic, geotechnical, hydrology, civil, and MEP teams to develop integrated project solutions.
- Review geotechnical and hydrological data and incorporate design requirements into structural solutions.
- Ensure designs comply with relevant IS Codes, IRC standards, international standards, and project-specific specifications.
- Review contractor/subcontractor drawings, method statements, material submissions, and technical proposals.
- Provide technical support during construction and resolve structural/site-related issues.
- Conduct site inspections and monitor construction activities to ensure compliance with approved drawings and specifications.
- Assist in preparation of BOQs, estimates, tender documents, and technical specifications.
- Review shop drawings and as-built drawings.
- Coordinate with clients, consultants, contractors, and other stakeholders.
- Ensure adherence to project schedules, quality requirements, health and safety standards, and applicable statutory regulations.
- Participate in technical meetings, design reviews, and progress discussions.
- Experience in dams, reservoirs, spillways, canals, weirs, intake structures, water treatment plants, pumping stations, or other hydraulic structures is preferred.
- Experience in engineering consultancy, EPC, infrastructure, or water-sector projects is desirable.
- Strong knowledge of structural design principles and reinforced/concrete structures.
- Good understanding of hydraulics, hydrology, geotechnical engineering, and water-retaining structures.
- Proficiency in software such as STAAD.Pro, ETABS, SAFE, SAP2000, AutoCAD, or equivalent design and drafting tools.
- Knowledge of applicable IS/IRC codes, design standards, and specifications.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, survey data, and geotechnical reports.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, coordination, and communication skills.
Qualification & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from a recognized university.
- Master's degree in Structural Engineering / Water Resources Engineering / Hydraulic Engineering will be an added advantage.
