Job Summary
The Lead Smart Mobility & Systems Design Engineer is responsible for leading the engineering, design, and integration of Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) and smart mobility solutions across highways, railways, tunnels, airports, and smart city programs. The role ensures the development of scalable, reliable, and integrated ITS architectures aligned with international transportation and smart mobility standards.
Key Responsibilities
ITS & Smart Systems Design
- Lead the design and engineering of Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) subsystems including ANPR, adaptive traffic control systems, Variable Message Signs (VMS), CCTV, traffic sensors, tunnel systems, ATMS/SCATS, emergency phones, and related smart mobility systems
- Develop integrated system architectures linking field devices, communication infrastructure, and centralized control systems
- Prepare ITS communication network designs including fiber optic, wireless, and IP/MPLS-based infrastructure
Analysis & Smart Mobility Planning
- Conduct traffic demand analysis and support the development of ITS and smart mobility technology strategies
- Assess integration of ITS platforms with city systems, mobility dashboards, and centralized operations platforms
- Support evaluation of smart mobility technologies and operational improvement opportunities
Technical Deliverables & Documentation
- Prepare detailed drawings, interface control documents (ICDs), technical specifications, and Bills of Quantities (BoQs)
- Lead RFP preparation activities and participate in technical evaluations of systems and vendors
Coordination & Leadership
- Coordinate with transportation planners, civil engineers, ICT teams, system integrators, and local authorities
- Mentor junior engineers and support the management of design and coordination workflows
- Participate in multidisciplinary coordination and stakeholder review meetings
Required Qualifications, Experience, and Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, ICT, Transportation Engineering, or related field
- Minimum 8–12 years of experience in ITS and smart mobility engineering projects
- Strong expertise in ITS systems design, smart mobility platforms, and transportation technologies
- Good understanding of communication networks including fiber optic, wireless, and IP/MPLS systems
- Deep knowledge of NTCIP, ISO 39001, EN standards, C-ITS, and V2X technologies
- Experience in highways, tunnels, rail, airports, or smart city infrastructure projects
- Good communication and presentation skills
- Good interpersonal skills
- Proficiency in spoken and written English and Arabic
