Job Summary
The Manager - Project Control is responsible for monitoring project performance and supporting Project Managers in project time and cost management. The jobholder is responsible to ensure the provision of adequate scheduling and cost management support to the Energy Project Managers. He also prepares periodic reports on the overall status and risks of all ongoing Energy design projects in coordination with respective Project Managers. He shall stay abreast of the latest trends and developments in project control and adopt best practices, where applicable.
Key Responsibilities (Financial)
- Monitor man-hours consumption, staff utilization and progress of Energy design projects
- Coordinate with Energy Project Managers to assess and track reasons for budget over-runs and delays and proposed mitigation measures, if any
- Assess impact of design claims on project costs, schedule and resource utilization for Energy Project Managers
Key Responsibilities (Customer Focus)
- Provide support to Energy Project Managers with the management of projects, specifically on the development and monitoring of project work programs, schedules, budgets and costs
- Prepare project schedule baselines (e.g. Primavera), work breakdown structures (WBS), and identify scheduling risks / mitigation measures for Energy Project Managers
- Prepare project budget plans, work programs, resource graphs and manage changes in project scopes for Project Managers in the Energy Division
- Brainstorm regularly with Project Managers to address project risks and issues
Key Responsibilities (Internal Business Process)
- Prepare overall Energy projects status reports in alignment with project progress reports developed by Oil & Gas, Power & Renewables and Energy & Utilities Project Managers
- Provide periodic Energy projects status updates to Project Control Sections in Regions, as needed
- Identify and assess the Energy Division’s risks (e.g. technical, external, organizational, project management, manpower, financial) from the Energy Division’s and Sectors’ business plans
- Develop risk registers for the Energy Division, including risk probability and risk impact, and develop adequate risk response strategies (e.g. risk avoidance, risk transfer, risk mitigation)
- Monitor and update risk registers for the Energy Division and oversee the implementation of adequate risk response strategies if the risk is triggered
- Track and monitor project-level risks in coordination with respective Project Managers
- Enforce corporate policies and procedures within the Project Control Section
Key Responsibilities (Learning & Growth)
- Participate in the execution of project close-out activities, including the evaluation of Energy Project Managers after the completion of projects
- Disseminate best practices in cost and schedule management to Energy Project Managers in coordination with the Operational Excellence Division and Design Sector Heads
- Develop manpower plan for the Project Control Section and raise to the Senior Manager - Business Operations for review
- Build capabilities within the Section and ensure that training plans are in place to develop the Section’s staff
- Ensure that all new joiners in the Project Control Section are inducted and trained on K&A’s policies and procedures
- Develop training plan and technology upgrade requests for the Project Control Section and raise to the Senior Manager - Business Operations for review
- Implement knowledge management policies and procedures within the Section in accordance with K&A’s knowledge management policies and procedures
- Establish a healthy work environment for employees
Qualification, Technical Skills and Competencies
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering
- Master’s Degree in Engineering is preferred
- PMP certification is preferred
- Knowledge of the Architecture, Engineering and Planning Industry
- Solid knowledge of project management
- Strong analytical and problem solving capabilities
- Good communication skills
- Ability to elicit cooperation from a wide variety of stakeholders, including senior management and various departments
- Proficiency in spoken and written English; Arabic is an advantage
Overall Experience Required to Execute this Role
- 10+ years of industry experience in the Architecture, Engineering and Planning Industry
Specific Experience Required to Execute this Role
- 10+ years of experience in the engineering industry in a top tier regional / multinational engineering consultancy firm
- Strong experience with project scheduling tools (e.g. Primavera) and with cost management tools and methodologies
