Job Summary

The Senior Landscape Architect leads the delivery of landscaping design projects of medium complexity. He works closely with Project Managers and design teams to develop different landscape design options and to refine selected designs across the project design cycle, including conceptual landscape designs, preliminary, final detailed designs and tender documents for landscape projects of medium complexity. The jobholder shall stay abreast of the latest trends and developments in landscaping design and share his knowledge with team members.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare and participate in kick off meetings / workshops with clients and internal counterparts, as needed
• Conduct site surveys, inspections and investigations, as needed
• Conduct data collection from all concerned entities in collaboration with local teams, including climate, meteorology, soil specifications, water sources, local species, natural hazards, etc.
• Develop a data inventory system and archive necessary data to share with project team members, as needed
• Analyze collected data and identify main design constraints and key challenges, and periodically meet with design teams of other specializations to integrate landscape design constraints, as needed
• Produce data collection report for projects of medium complexity, highlighting all collected and missing data
• Develop different landscape design options for projects of medium complexity, in coordination with Urban Designers, Urban Planners, Architects, Irrigation Engineers and other relevant design teams, as needed
• Develop alternative conceptual landscape designs for projects of medium complexity reflected in the form of plans, sections, mood boards, perspectives, material boards, as appropriate
• Develop comprehensive technical reports, detailing design concepts and soft scape components, irrigation systems, cost estimates, etc.
• Support client workshops and presentations, as needed, to select most appropriate landscape design options
• Refine selected landscape design option into preliminary and final detailed designs, for projects of medium complexity in coordination with other design disciplines, including the development of required drawings and graphical materials, as needed
• Conduct design value engineering in coordination with the Project Managers, as needed
• Develop landscape tendering documents and closely work with the Quantity Surveying Department for the development of final specifications, landscape palettes, Bills of Quantities and Conditions of Contract
• Support the tender process, including responding to bid queries and evaluating bids, as required
• Provide technical assistance, as needed, during the supervision phase, including solving design conflicts, conducting site visits and reviewing shop drawings, in close coordination with local design support teams
• Support Project Managers in validating design deliverables with clients and authorities, as needed, capturing feedback and obtaining approvals
• Review and conduct design checks for non-complex designs, in coordination with Landscape Architects
• Support Project Managers in implementing quality control measures on design deliverables, as per K&A’s quality policies and procedures
• Support Project Managers with the management of external sub-consultants, as needed

Specific Qualifications, Experience and Skills

• Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture or Landscape Architecture
• Master’s Degree in Landscape Architecture is preferred
• 5+ years of experience in landscaping design in a top tier regional / multinational engineering consultancy firm or in a boutique landscaping firm
• Exposure to a variety of landscaping projects
• Exposure to conceptual landscape planning and eco-system management
• Exposure to Sustainability concepts
• Exposure to global best practices and trends in landscaping design
• Good knowledge of horticulture and irrigation
• Excellent graphic design skills
• Good analytical and problem solving skills
• Good communication and presentation skills
• Strong interpersonal skills
• Proficiency in written and spoken English & Arabic
